Conservative English cookery
English people are very conservative and keep their traditions carefully. That is why their cookery is very much connected with the ancient traditions of this country.
The day of the Englishman started with the fried eggs with fried bacon, tomatoes, mushrooms, sausages, and lots of other things. And this tradition was kept till nowadays especially on weekends. Although the lack of time and constant hurrying of the modern world make English people choose the cornflakes and cold cereal more often, the English breakfast is considered to be Weetabix. But you'll certainly have the cup of tea with the fried toast with orange jam after the breakfast.
English people also have lunch that is usually served at half past three and then the tea and light dinner at 5 o'clock. Supper is usually served at 7 p.m. Till nowadays sandwiches in the form of triangle are traditional for the English cookery. The most classical are the sandwiches in triangle form with cucumbers and white bread. There is the lack of spices and food-plants in the English cookery. However the modern English culinary adds a lot of spices to dishes. But in general spices are not characteristic for the English courses.
English people eat a lot of meat of different kinds. They eat beef, veal, mutton, pork. It is usually baked either as total dish with blood or as steaks fried on the frying pot. Every meat is usually accompanied with gravy and vegetables such as potatoes, carrot, and cabbage. Nowadays this dish is usually served on Sundays and is called the Sunday lunch.
