The extraordinary Dutch cookery
The Dutch people don't like to spend time cooking something and they rarely enter the kitchen to cook something. However they watch carefully all served dishes were tasty and combined perfectly with each other.
The every-day dishes of Holland are considered to be the marine products such as herring, eel, flatfish and oysters. Annually people of Holland eat about 10 kilograms of mussels each. The meat of mussels is salted, boiled and is served with the butter and potatoes.
The salad is also served with fish dishes.
The most spread dish is sirloin of the fresh herring fried in the pork fat with onion cut in circles and potatoes. This dish also has a lot of parsley that is the spice and the decorative element at the same time. Parsley is the characteristic feature of Dutch cookery. It always accompanies the dish. For example, it is also used with the fried pikeperch that is served with vegetables.
The national Dutch dish is Hotspot. It is the cut in steaks boiled or stewed beef that is served with vegetables made of the boiled carrot and potatoes.
Besides the sandwiches with ham, cheese and butter are rather popular. Holland is popular for the good cheeses and their variety is so great that it is difficult to choose one kind of cheese. And the real gourmand is always ready to tell the good cheese made according to all traditions of Holland.
Dutch people prefer vodka among spirits preferring the "geneva" that is vodka made of juniper.
